Youth Karate

Shotokan’s Little Warriors- Little Warriors program will aid toddlers with development of sensori-motor, cognitive and social-emotional skills in an active play environment. Functional play is key to social development and Sensei Funakoshi has many years of experience assisting toddlers build confidence, character, discipline, respect and focus in a fun non-competitive environment. New session starts March 25, 2017.

Introductory- Introductory classes are designed for recreational students. These classes offer an alternative to ranking and competitive programs. Classes do not required a significant time commitment and gives students the opportunity to learn core principles in a fun nurturing environment. Traditional karate uniform not required for introductory session(comfortable loose clothing such as sweat pants or shorts are allowed). Free Trial Class, March 18th at 10:30AM

Price: $55 session/$20 drop-in rate

Duration: 5 weeks

Beginner- Beginner classes are designed for individuals who are ready to progress to the next step. Students will learn a basic grasps, punches, stances and kicks. Classes require a minimum eight week commitment in addition to testing to obtain belt. Students are required to wear traditional karate uniform to all training sessions. Testing fee is required for materials and test administration.

Day/Time: Tuesday/5:15-6:00PM & Saturday/11:00-11:45AM

Membership Price: $40 per month

Intermediate- Intermediate classes are tailored for those looking to push themselves to higher levels of Karate competition while maintaining Karate’s traditional roots. Intermediate classes require a minimum of eight weeks of training as a prerequisite in addition to testing and ranking. Students will learn different variations of grasps, punches, stances and kicks. This class will build on basics taught in Beginner classes. Classes require a minimum eight week commitment in addition to testing to obtain belt. Students are required to wear traditional karate uniform to all training sessions. Testing fee is required for materials and test administration.

Membership Price: $40 per month

Advanced (Competitive)- Advanced (Competitive) will classes will prepare students for tournament competition. The curriculum includes advanced punches, kicks, grasp, defenses, combinations and conditioning. Students will advance in ranking after minimum number of classes has been attended and testing has been completed. Students are required to wear traditional karate uniform to all training sessions. Testing fee is required for materials and test administration.

About the Instructor:

Sensei Kevin Funakoshi is a certified Hachi Dan (8th Dan) under Black Belt Hall of Fame inductee and founder of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA) Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi (cousin to the founder of Shotokan Karate, Gichin Funakoshi also known as the “Father of Modern Karate”).

Sensei Kevin Funakoshi started training in 1966 under Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi at the original Hawaii JKA dojo in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following the Funakoshi legacy as a Kumite and Kata Champion at the highest level of competition Sensei Kevin Funakoshi is now dedicated to bring out the maximum potential from the current generation of Karate students.
