Youth Athletic Performance Development Based on Science at NASA Starport

Program Goals -To develop athletic ability by understanding baseline levels and using sports science and evidence based sports performance training to elicit the maximum potential of a youth athlete. Our program, taught and designed by professional coaches with Olympic and professional sport experience will teach proper biomechanics to improve speed, agility, strength and power. Laser timing, force plates, accelerometers, body composition analysis and other measurable will be taken, because if we can measure it - we can improve it.

Each two-hour session will consist of an hour on the field training the most efficient movement patterns as well as an hour in the weight room developing strength and mobility to reduce the risk of injury from the repetitive nature of sports.

Camps starting June 3rd, for youths 8-18 years

Eight week program - Join us for one week or all eight.

Ari Nelson

A multisport athlete, Ari excelled as a Division 1 level defensive back, outside linebacker, and key contributor on special teams. Following his college career, he had the opportunity to attend the NFL Regional Combine Invitational; in addition, he was invited to workouts with several teams in the Alliance of American Football and the Canadian Football League. With a degree in kinesiology and a national coaching certification, Ari began coaching at Kingwood Park HS. In his 4 years coaching, his 7-on-7 team has had a top three finish in state qualifying tournaments each year. In addition to his work with Starport, Ari has spent the last two years as an Athletic Development Coach with Sports Prep USA. In his time there, he has been instrumental in coaching speed, agility and strength training for numerous youth to high school standouts, as well as college, and professional athletes.

Joel Grant

With over 20 years in the industry, Joel has had the opportunity to consult & train a wide variety of athletes from 5 years old to masters' level in a multitude of sports. Athletes include - multiple Olympic gold medalist, professional athletes (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, AVP & more), hundreds of Division 1 college athletes and thousands of youth through high school athletes. In addition to a degree in Exercise science, Joel is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a USA Weightlifting Performance Coach as well as holds coaching certifications for multiple sports. Currently, he is the Fitness and Wellness Manager for NASA -JSC with previous experience as an Exercise Physiologist for the University of Chicago, a Clinical Director for Sports Conditioning and Rehabilitation, a Sports Performance Director for Velocity Sports Performance and Athletic Director for Athletes Edge. Joel is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a USA Weightlifting Performance Coach as well as holds coaching certifications for multiple sports.

Kelly Willie

Once one of the fastest man on earth, Kelly is an Olympic Gold Medalist (2004, 4x400 Relay), Seven-time National Champion and a 19-time All-American. He is one of Louisiana State University's most decorated athletes in school history and is listed among LSU's all-time top 10 performers in five individual events. A Houston native Kelly has joined Starport's team to help our athletes learn some of the forms and techniques that made him so successful. Moreover, he has been instrumental in helping winning programs such as Texas A&M and Louisiana State University as a Volunteer Coach. Additionally, Kelly Joined Southern Utah University as the Men’s and Women’s Sprint Coach. There he helped the program to four individual conference titles and four NCAA Regional Qualifiers. Education has always been an important aspect of Kelly life as he is a graduate of LSU and recently received his Maters in Education with an emphasis in Sports Administration.
