Position Title: Lead Accountant

Reports to: NASA Exchange – JSC Operations Manager

Status: Exempt

Pay Range: $65k-75k

NASA Exchange - JSC (Starport) is looking for a highly motivated and astute individual to lead the accounting and business operations of Starport.

Starport is a non-appropriated fund instrumentality of the Johnson Space Center (JSC). It provides morale, well-being and quality-of-life services that directly enhance the work environment for JSC team members. Starport provides a variety of activities and employee services, including a fitness and wellness program; sports and recreational services; food and vending services; retail operations; employee events, activities and convenience services. The Lead Accountant will handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, business oriented environment.

Overview:

The Lead Accountant is responsible for financial and business systems. Preparing complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports; and analyzing current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. Supervises and guides the work of the Financial & Business Operations Office team. Serving as a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, retail inventory, and general ledger activities.
  • Insure adherence to policies and procedures in accordance with NPD 9050.6K and the Exchange Policies and Procedures manual (February 2001) in all business and financial matters. This includes a yearly internal and external financial audit.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget in conformance with Operations Manager’s assumptions.
  • Administer QuickBooks accounting system and maintain Chart of Accounts.
  • Prepare departmental and consolidated monthly activity reports (financial statements) for all Elements of the Exchange.
  • Oversee Exchange cash management and cash flow.
  • Provide expert data analysis and advice on complex issues. Devises new analytical techniques to evaluate findings. Provides recommendations to the Starport Leadership Team.
  • Performs analytical work requiring sound data judgment, discretion, and knowledge of a substantial body of financial principles, concepts, policies, and objectives.
  • Supervises Financial & Business Operations Office staff:
  • Promptly reporting all mishaps and taking required corrective action.
  • Assure Exchange internal controls are followed for cash management, separation of duties, and management oversight of employee activities.
  • Oversee work of two subordinate employees which include a bookkeeping specialist and software systems specialist.
  • Oversee the management and integration of a number of software systems used to track financials for fitness and wellness programs, recreational services, food and vending services, and retail operations. The software systems include but are not limited to Activenet and Vend. ·
  • Oversee software system issues through escalation, problem determination, and resolution.
  • Approve time cards.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire Financial &Business Operations staff.
  • Train staff members.
  • Maintain all official Exchange documents, including personnel and payroll records, and all contract agreements, for all elements, in conformance with current data retention guidelines.
  • Provide accounting and record keeping support for all Exchange elements.
  • Research and make recommendations on Exchange short term cash reserve fund decisions.
  • Administer Exchange employees’ benefit plans, including health, dental, and 401(K) plan.
  • Act as point of contact for insurance agent for marketing and purchasing employee benefits plans and the Exchange general liability and property insurance policies.
  • File all required tax and government reports in a timely manner.
  • Act as lead and POC for annual audit by outside accounting firm and the internal NASA financial representatives.
  • Administer Cooperative Agreements, including billing and drawdown, and insuring delivery of all required materials and reports.
  • Administer financial activities and record keeping for the Starport Partner contributions.
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory, and general ledger activities.
  • Act as lead and POC for annual audit by outside accounting firm and the internal NASA representatives.
  • Provide accounting and record keeping support for all Exchange elements.
  • Prepare and distribute all internal and external reports as required in accordance with NASA guidelines.
  • Work with investment broker to maintain situational awareness of assets.
  • Prepare special reports for the Operations Manager as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience using Quickbooks strongly desired
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience strongly desired

Skills & Requirements:

  • Ability to evaluate financial and business indicators and translate data into actionable information to drive results.
  • Demonstrated work experience in application of GAAP
  • Extensive QuickBooks knowledge
  • Experience working with and knowledge of a Point of Sales (POS) system is a plus
  • Extensive experience with month-end financial close including general ledger entries and financial statements, including reconciliation of bank and investment accounts
  • Experience creating budgets and conducting monthly report analysis
  • Experience with Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, A/P & A/R management, Year-end Close, equipment depreciation, payroll and benefits administration, and financial audits
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and other tools with the ability to create spreadsheets & accounting reports for both internal and external analysis
  • Excellent people management skills including resolving conflict, coaching and developing others, promoting teamwork, and performance
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment working towards strict deadlines while focusing on attention to detail
  • Can present ideas and directions that lead others to action.

Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor

Organization The NASA Exchange JSC (Starport) is the morale and welfare organization for NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Starport offers wellness, fitness, recreation, retail, and food services for the employees and Johnson Space Center community.

Description Starport is currently seeking highly skilled, energetic, and knowledgeable certified Personal Trainers to join our expanding team of fitness professionals at the NASA Exchange JSC. Ideal candidate must have a positive attitude, a passion for fitness & learning, be available for full-time training (mornings &/or evenings) We're willing to train the right individual!

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality customer service to all current and potential clients, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise
  • Provide one-on-one or small group fitness coaching
  • Develop and implement innovative exercise programs
  • Explain and demonstrate modern exercise principles to ensure client safety
  • Proactive communication with members about programs and packages
  • Communicate effectively with the supervisor through phone, email, or in person
  • Follow and enforce all safety regulations, policies and procedures

Ideal Qualifications

  • Ability to positively motivate members in fitness activities
  • Possess a current Personal Training Certification through NSCA, ACSM, ACE, NASM or other nationally-recognized certifying agency
  • Possess current, nationally recognized CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a similar health field
  • Ability to modify exercises and tailor workouts to meet specific needs of the client
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures

Position Title: Dietitian

Reports To: Wellness & Fitness Manager

Status: Per Diem Contract

 

Overview:

The Registered Dietitian is an integral part of Starport’s Wellness team. This role is responsible for providing nutritional support to the NASA – Johnson Space Center Team members and community participating in Starport’s wellness services/programs. This position will communicate directly with clients to help them improve their health through nutritional counselling. The individual will also consult with the Wellness & Fitness Manager to deliver group education sessions for our JSC population.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality, personalized nutritional education for Starport clients via digital interactions.
  • Provide scientifically based nutritional educational sessions via digital and/or in person classroom settings
  • Maintain compliance with all requirements of Federal, State, and local regulations and guidelines pertaining to dietetics and the USDA
  • Maintain all records and reports necessary to comply with Starport’s information protection policy
  • Support diet restrictions and physician orders by developing menus supporting dietary care plans
  • Provides nutritional counseling for a variety of food allergies and sensitivities
  • Drive customer satisfaction, and maintain client relationships through professionalism
  • Conduct evaluations and investigate program concerns while providing recommendations to improve service and quality
  • Support all Starport services and promotional standards improving participation, employee morale and promoting healthy eating habits across JSC
  • Present to various partners through meetings, formal presentation and or nutrition education
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the Wellness & Fitness Manager. Tasks and responsibilities may be added or revised based on the volume of business and the need for the work to be completed at the present time

Position Title: Computing and Electronics Instructor

Reports To: Sport & Recreation Manager

Status: Contract

Times: Varies- Monday – Friday evening (classes) & Saturday morning (workshops)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop instructional material on technology subject.
  • Setting up class materials or kits, using slides and other structured company provided materials
  • Run camps and convey key STEM concepts to students
  • Initiate tools and processes in teaching methodologies.
  • Answer and respond to students’ inquiries.
  • Monitor individual performance of each student
  • Stay abreast of tech trends and create content to meet demands
  • Provide expert technical guidance on industry-based best practices

Minimum Qualifications

Age:

  • 18 years or older

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or working towards degree in education, computer science, engineering, or related

Experience:

  • Experience working with youth ages 5-12, 13-17 and adults preferred
  • STEM Teaching experience
  • Programming in Java, Python, Robot C, Raspberry Pi, Phone app dev, Game programming
  • 1 year prior experience teaching, comfortable leading groups up to 14 preferred
  • Ability to write new lesson plans in a tech-arts field
  • Experience working with Microcontrollers: Arduino, LilyPad, Flora, Raspberry Pi

Licenses

  • Raspberry Pi Certified Educator preferred
