Position: Fitness Technicians (x2)

Reports to: Fitness & Wellness Manager

Pay Range: $13.00 - $15.00/hour 

Employment Status: Part-time; not to exceed 28 hours

Overview:

The Fitness Technician assists the Wellness & Fitness Manager with overall operation of the fitness center. This position is responsible for creating a great member experience by providing guests with wellness and fitness guidance and education to ensure a safe and professional facility.

This is a temporary, trial position to be evaluated throughout the next year. The position may change. The incumbent can be promoted, demoted, detailed or reassigned to other positions without further competition.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily operations of fitness programming including group fitness, personal training, fitness assessments, educational presentations, special events, new member orientation program, employee wellness program, and fitness facilities
  • Expand and develop fitness programs, outreach programs, communication strategies and health education efforts to improve and increase the well-being of the JSC community. Examples include activities such as running programs, HIIT programs, fitness/weight loss challenges, virtual programming, lunch and learns, partnering with EAP on wellness sessions
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Fitness Center. Monitoring members to ensure they are adhering to cleaning and COVID standards. Machines, mats and additional fitness equipment will require sanitization multiple times per day
  • Research, develop and implement wellness initiatives and strategies to improve the health and well-being of employees using preventive means that provide measurable results. This includes activities such as live classes, webinars, specialty programs, health screenings, individual consultations, health challenges, etc.
  • Assess member's fitness needs, develop an appropriate personalized fitness and healthy lifestyle plan and advocate, guide, and assist them in achieving their goals
  • Work with others within assigned entity to organize, operate and retain special events/programs. Examples include Aliens vs. Astronauts Race, Safety & Health Day, Turkey Trot, Golf tournament, etc.
  • The ability to monitor fitness equipment function and usage, trouble shoot machine malfunctions, repair minor issues and report service requirements in a timely manner
  • Ensure the safety of all participants, by helping teach proper form and equipment usage
  • Enforcing facility safety standards, rules and regulations
  • Administer/assist in providing first aid and/or CPR as needed
  • May coordinate adult league sports such as Basketball, Softball, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Dodgeball, Kickball, and Soccer. May serve as administrator of Starport’s IM Leagues website
  • Research and develop new league sports and tournaments (both adult and youth) that generate revenue for the NASA Exchange and better serve the JSC community

Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to lead group fitness classes, provide personal and small group training sessions, lead boot camp classes, provide nutritional counselling, produce virtual fitness video content, and compose wellness blogs. A minimum 2-3 of these skill sets is required
  • A minimum of one year experience working in health and fitness industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology or similar field (at minimum a college junior in related program)
  • Must possess a valid Texas ID/Driver’s License
  • Must be a US Citizen

Physical Requirements:

  • Regular lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, climb, crawl, push, pull, stand or walk or perform other physical activities for extended periods of time
  • Ability work in normal seasonal weather conditions while performing outdoor task

Certifications:

  • Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid
  • Ideally possess a nationally recognized Personal Training Certification
  • Ideally possess a nationally recognized Nutrition Counsellor Certification
  • Ideally possess a nationally recognized Group Exercise Certification

Position Requires:

  • Availability to accommodate up to a maximum of 28 hours per week with a minimum of four scheduled shifts. Facility hours may vary between 5 am and 10 pm seven days per week
  • Possibility of split shifts
  • Additional hours and pay are available for one-on-one and group instruction

Position: Retail Day to Day Operations

Reports to: Retail Operations Manager

Pay Range: $11.00 - $13.00/hour

Employment Status: Full-time

Overview:

The Retail Day to Day Operations position is responsible for serving as a utility player that understands and can implement all aspects of the retail processes including customer service, packaging and shipping orders, and assisting with eCommerce and inventory tasks.

This is a temporary, trial position to be evaluated throughout the next year. The position may change. The incumbent can be promoted, demoted, detailed or reassigned to other positions without further competition.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Retail Operations Manager in planning and implementing strategies to attract customers. This includes providing a strong leadership presence and control in stores, while ensuring that all customers receive good service and quality merchandise.
  • Provide a positive shopping experience for customers. Is aware of subtle customer cues and respond appropriately.
  • Maintain expansive knowledge of products to answer customer questions properly
  • Assist in receiving and processing product shipments
  • Prepare and display new merchandise
  • Promote brand loyalty programs and other incentives
  • Maintain a standard of cleanliness in the store by following set guidelines
  • Assist with handling online customer questions, concerns, and process returns in collaboration with management
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with all members of the Starport team.
  • Monitor inventory movement in all stores and know when to replenish stores and replenish inventory as necessary within budget
  • Receive regular vendor deliveries and stock sales floor in a timely manner.
  • Assess needs of individual stores to determine how they differ then ensure merchandising meets unique requirements.
  • Maintain store shelves by observing displays of products; removing damaged or outdated merchandise; and providing optimum display of products.
  • Ensure all pricing, signage, and displays are correct and up to date at all times.
  • Assist in creating displays to enhance special promotions and products; observing customer reactions and adjusting as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities to drive traffic into the store through events (sales promotions, NASA milestones, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
  • 1-3 years’ experience in retail
  • Can work a flexible schedule
  • Knowledge of POS and Inventory Control processes
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate with confidence to both internal and external customers.

Position: Facility Specialist 

Reports to: Facility and Projects Manager

Pay Range: $10.00 - $13.00/hour

Overview:

The Facility Specialist provides the manual labor required to efficiently maintain athletic playing fields, conference facility, fitness center, cafeteria and adjacent areas in a safe manner.

This is a temporary, trial position to be evaluated throughout the next year. The position may change. The incumbent can be promoted, demoted, detailed or reassigned to other positions without further competition.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides high touch point cleaning throughout the day, as instructed, in all Starport buildings
  • General room setup and breakdown for conference planning, recreation, and fitness programming support.
  • Performs and records weekly checks on various related indoor and outdoor sports facilities and areas for the purpose of maintaining safe participant and spectator conditions.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in proper working condition by performing minor maintenance as needed.
  • Assist in supplemental maintenance and custodial responsibilities as needed.
  • May performs other related maintenance work as needed, such as mowing, edging, marking playing fields, replacing volleyball/soccer nets, removing standing water off playing fields, etc.
  • Utilizes safety equipment and related work articles in a proper manner while performing various assigned tasks.
  • Reports any job site problems or concerns to supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Maintains quality standards on each assigned task.
  • Applies knowledge of standardized and accepted facilities maintenance procedures and techniques in the athletic, fitness, recreation, conference facility and food service industry in accordance with company approved safety practices and policies.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures paying special attention to all health and safety procedures and reporting all occupational injuries or illnesses to supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude through courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to program customers.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and required training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Minimum 1 year experience in general maintenance and/or athletic field maintenance
  • Experience working in a fitness center, conference facility, recreation or corporate wellness environment preferred
  • Subject to full criminal background check
  • Subject to random drug testing
