Retail Sales Specialist

Starport Gift Shops is seeking a full-time retail sales specialist to join the Starport team.  This position oversees the daily retail operations of one of the two NASA Exchange Operations stores located at the Johnson Space Center.  Great customer service is a must.  Retail experience of two or more years is required.

Essential Job Functions:

Opening/closing procedures of store, cash handling, merchandising, inventory control, maintaining storage room and providing excellent customer service.  Organization, interpersonal skills, dependability, accuracy and self-motivation are a must. Employee may perform other duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Qualification and Experience:

Starport Personal Trainer

General Summary

Starport’s Personal Trainers design customized exercise training programs that allow clients to attain individual health and fitness goals in a safe, effective manner.  Personal Trainers encourage their clients to perform a variety of adequately challenging exercises and workouts with proper form and technique that are specifically designed to improve the fitness level and general health of each individual client.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Member Experience:

  • Conduct a comprehensive fitness assessment for new clients including (but not limited to) blood pressure screening, body composition assessment, flexibility test, cardiovascular endurance analysis, and muscular strength test.
  • Conduct an analysis of health history, exercise history, and fitness goals.
  • Develop safe, professional, exciting and comprehensive personal training programs that allow clients to remain motivated to attain their personal fitness goals.
  • Monitor and instruct clients during personal training sessions on the safe and effective use of cardiovascular, flexibility and strength training equipment.
  • Educate members on current health and fitness issues and trends.
  • Deliver personal training programs based on referring physician’s instructions as required.
  • Refer members to appropriate personal trainer level based on needs, when necessary.

Sales & Promotion:

  • Promote and sell personal training programs and services to Starport members, their dependents, and the community as applicable. 
  • Promote all Starport Fitness programs, services and products including recreational classes, sports leagues, Pro Shop merchandise, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a personal training client base.

Managerial & Supervisory:

  • Complete all administrative requirements associated with each client’s fitness plan
  • Complete and maintain accurate and current client files
  • Remain current on all required certifications as well as new trends in the industry
  • Attend Starport’s annual contractor meeting and other meetings as requested by Starport Management
  • As a member of the Starport Contactor staff, all policies and procedures outlined in the Starport Contractor Handbook are applicable to this position and must be adhered to accordingly.
  • Properly handle and store sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII), either physical or electronic, per current NASA regulations and policies.

Customer Service:

  • Demonstrate positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers
Safety:
Safety responsibilities include:
  • Comply with all company and facility safety rules and regulations as documented in Starport Fitness facility policies and safety rules and regulations.
  • Use all required safety devices and personal protection equipment (i.e. closed-toed footwear) as applicable.
  • Report accidents and injuries to supervisor as soon as possible (< 24 hours)
  • Notify department head of any unsafe acts or conditions as soon as possible
  • Participate in all safety training (i.e., fire drills) and safety inspections
  • Suggest methods of preventing hazards to department head

Minimum Qualifications for all levels of Starport Personal Trainers

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Four-year degree and/or masters degree in kinesiology, sports medicine, or other related field preferred
Experience:
  • One-year personal training experience preferred
  • Exercise program design experience preferred
  • Completed study in kinesiology, sports medicine or similar field
  • Four-year degree highly desired for higher-level trainer status
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:
  • Current Certified Personal Trainer Certification.  A minimum of one nationally-recognized and fully-accredited certification is required.  Examples include ACSM, ACE, NSCA, NASM, IFPA, NESTA, ISSA, NFPT, and NSCF – all of which are accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA). 
  • Current CPR/AED certification (on-site training available)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
  • Ability to build relationship with members
  • Excellent customer service and promotional skills; energetic, enthusiastic and motivational
  • Ability to resolve conflicts in a professional, tactful manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of fitness, cardiovascular training, strength training, and individual exercise program design
  • Knowledge of safe exercise techniques, and potential injuries and ability to handle emergencies
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and adjust machine weights, free weights, and cardiovascular equipment safely
  • Ability to multi-task and learn quickly
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate a computer and basic office software (including Microsoft Word and Excel).
Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in English.

General Summary

Starport is looking for a highly-motivated customer-service focused individual who will be responsible for delivering the highest quality customer service to all members and guests through professional greetings, account maintenance, and extensive knowledge of Starport Fitness and Recreational services and products.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Member Services:

  • Proactively meet the needs of members and accurately answer questions. Greet and service members in a friendly and professional manner
  • Attentively and promptly respond to member needs
  • Enter sales transactions for members, including program, service and product payments
  • Process member paperwork, including address changes, member cancellations, new members, electronic funds transfers, and payments
  • Promote all Starport Fitness programs, services and products

Managerial & Supervisory:

Starport Fitness Technician

General Summary

Starport’s Fitness Technicians provide outstanding customer service by offering assistance in any way possible, while serving as the primary point of contact in the Fitness Center.  Fitness Technicians encourage members to perform a variety of adequately challenging exercises and workouts using proper form and technique in order to improve fitness and general health.   

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, professional, and clean environment in order to help members attain their personal fitness goals.
  • Monitor and instruct members on the safe and effective use of cardiovascular, flexibility and strength training equipment.
  • Offer and Provide assistance with spotting and stretching.
  • Educate members on current health and fitness issues and trends.
  • Conduct a basic fitness assessment for any member upon request.
  • Refer members to appropriate personal trainer level based on needs, when necessary.
  • Promote all Starport Fitness programs, services and products including recreational classes, sports leagues, Pro Shop merchandise, etc.
